【Abstract】With the improvement of people’s life， sports has become an indispensable part of our life， which promotes sports news. Besides， sports news is one of the most significant way to promote cultural communication and enhance mutual understanding. Thus， sports news has an increasing role in the communication between China and outside world due to its unique advantages. Therefore， sports news translation has great practical and theoretical significance in today’s society. with the analysis on the function and characteristics of the sports news， This thesis studies the sports news translation and proposes some practical translation skills.

　　Features of sports news translation
　　1. Timelessness
　　It’s an era full of information and news， people receive sports news from many ways， like newspaper， TV， especially internet. Sports news， domestic or international， no sports fan can really afford to ignore these important information sources. So as it in Chinese media industry， the editor gather the latest sports news， translate and edit these English information into Chinese， then domestic readers can read these “fresh” news at first time. In brief， editors must present their news article before a “deadline”.
　　2. News writing style and structure
　　No matter the sports news in source language or target language， it should be written in conformity with ordinary news writing， share the common feature of news such as style and structure.
　　As a professional E-C sports news translator， he supposed to have good ability at both English and Chinese， excellent news writing and editing skills， solid knowledge of sports terms， etc.
　　3.Accuracy in adaptation
　　In sports news translation， the writer tries to redistribute source language news into target language before “deadline” and news are attractive to readers. Not only international big event， other foreign games offer lots of information to the translators， so they had to compress these information in a given time and a limited space. It is obviously the writer will use some adaptation such as addition and deletion .
　　The Strategies in Sports News Translation
　　1. Expansion
　　Mostly， sports news itself isn’t born to be translated. The imaginary readership is those who live in a cultural environment that are also shared by the author himself. Therefore， the sports news is based on the norms that are familiar to the source language readers. It’s the translator’s responsibility to turn information rich in cultural connotation into something understandable to target readers. In addition， to foreign readers the statement may sound more authoritative and convincing by adding the source to it， in order to make sports news translation more idiomatic and acceptable. 　　2. Omission
　　Chinese sports news usually contains lots of lyric expressions and parallelism structures to strike a form and sound beauty. However，English sports news is plain in form and logic in structure. In Chinese to English translation， especially for those news concerning scenic spots， translator should pay enough attention to get rid of over-decorative adjectives to pursue a down-to-earth style in translated sports news.
　　Translators should make the version not just accessible to the reader， but easily understood. In authoritative statements translation， translators has to give prominence to the core information in the original text by omitting the redundant and unnecessary information. Besides， the omission skill may help make the target translation more accurate， concise and acceptable.
　　3. Restructuring
　　The translator should try to find the vague information and convey it to the target text readers when the literal meaning of the sentence does not work in the situation of the utterance. Especially information restructuring is needed in sports news translation.
　　According to the usage of the language to be translated into， restructuring includes change of word-order in a sentence， rearranging the sentences or paragraphs in source news in a lineal， spiral or more logic order， putting inner connected sentences or paragraphs together or breaking through the sentence groups which should be divided to make sense， so as to make the translation more consistent and coherent. Restructuring can be deemed as the most dramatic technique used in translating sports news from Chinese into English.
