As early as the mid-1950s, many scholars have already predicted that cathode ray tubes (CRT) will be replaced by newer, solid-state flat-panel displays that today seem less predictable than two decades ago. It appears that instead of flat panel displays, flat panel displays are a viable alternative to CRTs.
