I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers,
From the seas and the streams;
I bear light shade for the leaves when laid
In their noonday dreams.
From my wings are shaken the dews that waken
The sweet buds every one,
When rocked to rest on their mother’s breast,
As she dances about the Sun.
I 1)wield the 2)flail of the lashing 3)hail,
And whiten the green plains under,
And then again I 4)dissolve it in rain,
And laugh as I pass in thunder.
I sift the snow on the mountains below,
And their great pines groan 5)aghast;
And all the night ’tis my pillow white,
While I sleep in the arms of the blast.
6)Sublime on the towers of my 7)skiey bowers,
Lightning, my pilot, sits;
In a 8)cavern under is fettered the thunder,
It struggles and howls at fits;
Over earth and ocean, with gentle motion,
This pilot is guiding me,
Lured by the love of the 9)genii that move
In the depths of the purple sea;
Over the 10)rills, and the 11)crags, and the hills,
Over the lakes and the plains,
Wherever he dream, under mountain or stream,
The Spirit he loves remains;
And I all the while 12)bask in Heaven’s blue smile,
Whilst he is dissolving in rains.

I am the daughter of Earth and Water,
And the 13)nursling of the Sky;
I pass through the 14)pores of the ocean and shores;
I change, but I cannot die.
For after the rain when with never a stain
The 15)pavilion of Heaven is bare,
And the winds and sunbeams with their 16)convex gleams
Build up the blue dome of air,
I silently laugh at my own 17)cenotaph,
And out of the caverns of rain,
Like a child from the womb, like a ghost from the tomb,
I arise and unbuild it again.
我为焦渴的鲜花,从海洋,从河川,
带来清新的甘霖;
我为绿叶披上淡淡的凉荫,当他们
沉浸在午睡的梦境。
从我翅膀上摇落下露珠,去唤醒
每一朵香甜的蓓蕾,
蓓蕾的母亲绕太阳旋舞,
她们就在母亲的摇抱下入睡。
我挥动冰雹的连枷,
把绿色的原野捶打成银装素裹;
再用雨水把冰雪消融,
我轰然大笑从雷声中走过。
我筛落雪花,洒遍下界的峰岭山峦,
巨松因惊恐而呻吟呼唤;
当我在烈风抚抱下酣眠,
皑皑的积雪成为我安眠的枕垫。
在我那空中楼阁的塔堡上,
端坐着我的舵手——闪电,
其下有个洞穴,雷霆幽囚其中,
发出一阵阵挣扎怒吼;
越过大地,越过海洋,我的舵手
轻柔地指引着我,
紫色波涛深处的仙女,
以爱诱他前行;
越过河川、峭壁、山岭,
越过湖泊平原,
无论他向往何处,他所眷恋的精灵
仍在山底、河谷之中;
虽然他会在雨水中消溶,
我却始终沐浴着天庭蓝色的笑容。
……
我是大地和水的女儿,
也是天空的养子,
我往来于海洋陆地的一切孔隙——
我变化,但我不死。
因为雨后洗净的天宇虽然一丝不挂,
而且,一尘不染,
风和阳光用它们那凸圆的光线
把蓝天的穹庐修建,
我却默默地嘲笑我自己空虚的坟冢,
钻出雨水的洞穴,
像婴儿娩出母体,像鬼魂飞离墓地,
我腾空,再次把它拆毁。
