年近古稀的高莽先生(1926—)说,他母亲长有一双勤劳而又温柔的手,始终慈爱地激励着他奋发向上。而从这位伟大的母亲身上,高先生承继了一双同样勤劳的手。在如今已是百岁人瑞的母亲的严格培育下,这双手终于转而神奇:纵横笔墨、恣肆汪洋,不但译出传神的苏俄文学作品,写出感人肺腑的散文,而且还画出一幅幅形象逼真的图画。先生一家四世同堂,挤在北京西郊紫竹院昌运宫一三居室里。且不说先生的译著,单是所绘制的外国作家肖像,即近百幅硬是接连不断地从这斗室里用中国传统绘画技法创作出来,且大多均有所绘作家的亲笔签名或题词。称之为当今中华画坛瑰宝,恐不为过。为了给众多的外国作家造像,高先生可谓呕心沥血,其间有许许多多有趣、感人的轶事。从本期起,本刊特辟《昌运宫画屋》专栏,介绍高先生挥毫泼墨、运用丹青的背景材料,或亦可为我国的外国文学园地增添一支独特的花卉。编者
