The Heckscher-Ohlin-Vanek (HOV) model links trade to factor endowments from the perspective of consumption through input-output matrices, with trade-offs being “trade-offs” for its “elemental content” in a defined quantitative relationship. However, the series of assumptions made by the HOV model are too harsh, which weakens its explanatory power on the results of empirical research. Although Leamer’s research ideas stem from the HOV model, “Leamer Improvement” has broken through the original analytical framework and provided important implications for establishing a general model of trade flows and direct element flows.
