High mortality in patients with sepsis results from the development of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS).We have previously found that hydrogen (H2) gas inhalation has beneficial effects on septic mice in a concentration-and time-dependent manner.1,2 In contrast to H2 gas, hydrogen-rich saline (HS) may be more suitable for clinical application.3 Therefore, we hypothesized that HS resuscitation could alleviate the development of MODS in sepsis induced by cecal ligation and puncture.
