A Schiff base ligand,anthracene-9-pyridylhydrazone(9-APH),was synthesized by 9-anthracencarboxaldehyde and2-hydrazinopyridine,and was characterized by UV,ESI-MS,1H-NMR and EA.Three transition metal complexes 1-3of 9-APH were synthesized and structurally characterized as well.The in vitro antitumor activity of 9-APH and itsmetal complexes were screened by MTT method against five tumor cell lines(MGC80-3,NCI-H460,SK-OV-3,Hep-G2,BEL-7404)as well as the normal liver cell line HL-7702.Complex 2 showed some higher cytotoxicitytowards most of the tumor cell lines than 9-APH,but lower cytotoxicity toward the HL-7702 cell,suggesting theircytotoxic selectivity on the tumor cells.
