The self-assembled monolayers(SAMs)with gradient electronegativity and surface energy were employed by surface grafting of a binary mixture of organosilanes with different terminal chemical group including amino(-NH2)and methyl(-CH3)on glass slides.Surface free energies measured by the van Oss modification of Youngs equation. With the percentage of amino(-NH2)on the SAMs increased 0.1 to 0.4,the surface free energies of SAMs gradually increased as well as the electronegativity(positive charges),meanwhile, the surface free energies dominated the adhesion amount of diatom, increasing gradually; while the adhesion amount of diatom declined gradually as the percentage of amino(-NH2)increased 0.4 to 0.6 with the negative charges increasing but surface free energies not being up nearly.
