The separation of aromatic compounds and aliphatic hydrocarbons is of pivotal importance because the aromatics often serve as major raw materials in plastic,synthetic rubber,and synthetic fiber manufacture.Various types of ionic liquids were tested as extractant for the separation of aromatic compounds and aliphatic hydrocarbons containing 7 carbon atoms (the Cr-firactions).The results were good,and an explicit comparison with sulfolane showed that ionic liquids could be a successful alternative solvent when the mixture of toluene and heptanes was treated with phosphate and phosphite series ionic liquids.
