A sample of 1233 yellowfin tuna was collected in the central and western Indian Ocean from October 2012 to January 2013 and from October 2013 to February 2014 by the National Tuna Fishery Observatory in China and studied its breeding biology , Main analysis of yellowfin tuna weight, fork length, sex ratio, sexual maturity and gonadal index reproductive biology parameters. The results showed that: (1) The relationship between male and female length and weight was W = 7 × 10-6L3.244 and W = 6 × 10-6L3.197, respectively; (2) The ratio of male to female was 0.74:1, (3) Female gonad index was 0.39 ~ 5.92, female gonadal index was greater than 2 accounted for 52.03%; male gonad index was 0.44 ~ 3.37, in the male individual gonadal index greater than 2 accounted for 31.43%. (4) The Logistic curves of female and male mature length were P = 1 / [1 + e0.08276 × (122.991-FLm)] and P = 1 / [1 + e0.03767 × (118.618-FLm)], respectively; (5) During the sampling period (from October to February of next year), the sexual maturity rate of males and females reached the highest in December and January respectively, and lowest in February. (6) According to body length distribution, 115 cm could be divided into two groups based on the size of yellowfin tuna. The proportions of large individuals in male and female samples were 63.13% and 75.40%, respectively. There were significant differences in the size of male and female between the two populations (P <0.05 ). The results of this study contribute to a better understanding of the biological characteristics of yellowfin tuna in the western Indian Ocean and provide the basic information for our further development of such fishery resources.
