Electronic stimulation with a microcomputer has become the basic tool for functional neuromuscular stimulation (FNS). The clinically useful FNS system must provide more comprehensive and extensive applicability to meet or replace the loss of patient control. This article describes two new functional neuromuscular stimulation (FNS) systems that can be used to paralyze patient-assisted devices. Both systems are portable and laboratory (non-portable) and have many significant advantages over previous similar devices: their memory, expansion capabilities and interfacing capabilities with other systems.
