在美国哥伦比亚大学图书馆手稿部珍藏的顾维钧文件中，有1938年3月至9月间胡适致顾维钧函五通，为各种胡适传记资料和其他已刊资料所未收录。这些信函颇能反映当时胡适对中国外交的看法，尤其是他出任驻美大使前夕投笔从政时的矛盾心态，也能从一个侧面反映国民政府的外交方针
Among the Gu Weijun paper collated in the Manuscripts Department of the University of Columbia Library was Hu Weiguo Gu Wei Jun’s letter Wutong, which was not included in the biography of Hu Shih and other published materials. These letters quite reflect Hu Shih’s view of China’s diplomacy at the time, especially the contradictory attitude of applying for political credentials on the eve of his appointment as ambassador to the United States. They can also reflect the diplomatic guideline of the national government from one aspect
