According to N. A. Olsson of AT & T Bell Labs, the linear hybrid repeaters used in digital optical communication systems have high operating rates. At 150Mb / s, the insertion gain and loss are 35dB and 0.3dB, respectively. When this repeater is used to close the loop, pulses with a pulse width of 5 μs can transmit 15000 km. Compared with the standard optical amplifier, the linear repeater still has some shortcomings: ① can not amplify the WDM signal; ② the structure is more complex; ③ requires detectors and electronic amplification equipment.
