Described herein is the use of the intensity balance method to determine ¯ (181) Hf activity and γ-ray emission probability. The rationale for the method is that the activity of the mother nucleus equals the sum of the intensities of all the rays that reach the ground state of the nucleus, and for ~ (181) Hf these rays consist of about 97% gamma rays and about 3% of the converted electrons. The probability of γ-ray emission was measured with a HPGe detector and the conversion electron emissivity was calculated using the literature conversion coefficient. The total uncertainty of measurement activity was ± 0.8%, and the 482.0 keV gamma ray emission was measured as 0.8055 ± 0.0048. The errors of the measurement results are carefully discussed and compared with the data given in the literature.
