Hong Kong’s auction market in autumn 2012 was exceptionally lively. Apart from Sotheby’s in Hong Kong and Christie’s in Hong Kong, the two major international auction houses continued to occupy a larger share of the market. They first landed in Hong Kong’s Beijing Poly, China Guardian, and Bonhams, Ravenel Other auction companies also appeared one after another, trying to gain a foothold in the extremely active “art world” of the art trade and compete for more resources of the collectors in the market. Taking two large-scale auction houses in Beijing as an example, China Guardian and Beijing Poly won the HK $ 455 million and HK $ 520 million respectively at the first Hong Kong auction held in the fall of 2012, which brought great benefits to Christie’s and Sotheby’s pressure.
