The mid-60s Some people think that the single crystal superalloy as a promising engineering materials, first used in aircraft gas turbine engines. Although this material was largely used in aircraft engine turbine blades after the early 1980s, the accumulated flight hours have reached tens of millions of hours. The Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) and future earth-to-space propulsion systems produce harsh working conditions on turbine blades that can cause blade damage more severely than aircraft gas turbines due to various potential failure modes. This article will also discuss some research work on single crystal superalloys to evaluate the potential of this alloy for turbine blades of turbopumps used in SSME and advanced rocket motors.
