In order to protect electronic computers from the devastating effects of the Great Earthquake, Japan’s Dacheng Construction Company began to adopt a new shock-absorbing construction method to stop earthquakes from spreading in the main body of buildings. The construction method uses a cushioning method in which a small frictional “synthetic resin” shoe is applied to the pillar supporting the weight of the building so that it slides on a stainless steel plate like ice skating to prevent the propagation of vibration. It is said that compared with the previous shock-absorbing construction method, the prominent feature of the new shock-absorbing construction method is that the more it can exert its effect in the event of a strong earthquake, it can reduce the shaking of the building from 1/3 to 1 / 5. The first four-story building with reinforced concrete under this new shock-absorbing construction method is under construction in the Institute of Technology, Dacheng Construction Company, Totsuka-ku, Yokohama, and is expected to be completed by the end of June 1988.
