This article describes the 17 GHz dual-command receiver unit of the first U.S. direct broadcast satellite (DBS). The device is part of a satellite telemetry, tracking and command system and consists of two back-up double conversion receivers. Features a low-noise GaAs FET preamplifier and an extended-phase-locked loop (PLL) FM demodulator with signal extraction from noise. Each receiver has a protection bandwidth of 1.5 MHz, a command sensitivity of -135 dB and a noise figure of up to 10 dB with an operating temperature of -10 to + 55 ° C. In addition, this article also introduced the receiver’s test performance data.
