(Goin’ to the 2)chapel, and they’re gonna get married.)
I can remember it like it was yesterday. In fact, I celebrated my two year wedding anniversary just last week. (Oh, good for you…) Well, thank you, it feels like ten years, but you know (laughter), that’s 3)neither here nor there. So your long-time or maybe short-time partner is going to “4)pop the question.” (Right.) You’re nervous. You’ve got energy, a dramatic embrace, and then out of nowhere a 5)paparazzo rushes out of the bushes, or under the table, or wherever, and is snapping your photo. Your now very private moment has turned very public. It’s called a paparazzi proposal, and apparently it’s all the 6)rage.
It’s considered by some one of the most important and most public days of your life: your wedding. And the event leading up to it, the wedding proposal, used to be one of your most intimate and private moments. Not any more.
Welcome to the latest trend: the paparazzi proposal. Grooms these days are hiring photographers to hide and capture 7)candid photos as they propose to their 8)unwitting bride.
Chris: I wanted to do something memorable. And to my mind, nothing could have captured the memory better than a picture of it.
Chris Joraleman proposed to his then girlfriend, Briana King, while walking through Central Park. She accepted, completely unaware that a photographer was hiding behind a tree taking pictures, until Chris gave her the photos as a Christmas gift.
Briana: It was kind of like, oooo, there was someone following us, and isn’t that a little weird? But…but it’s so nice to have right now this record of that experience.
The couple was so pleased that they even hired the same photographer to shoot their wedding pictures.
Chris: I wanted to capture the moment so that we would have it forever, really for our family. So…eventually, when we had children, that they’d one day would be able to look back and sort of know the story of how we got engaged.
