Water-Condensing Conditions Ice has a regular structure, but liquid water can take any of a large number of possible molecular arrangements that are held together by hydrogen bonds. There are a large number of possible structures that are a barrier to the computer simulation of water condensation. Now, after many months of simulations with supercomputers, researchers have mastered the mystery of how water condenses. Simulation shows that forming a certain number of long-lived hydrogen bonds at a certain position is an inducing factor for ice nucleation. The cover of this issue shows that the water structures bound together by hydrogen bonds enter the condensation process on a time scale of one billionth of a second.
