More than three billion symbols may be needed to codify all the body’s chemicals into genetic code. It is estimated that each human cell is stuffed with about 100,000 genes. About 800 of these chromosomes have now been identified and the location of the remaining genes is currently being marked at a rate of 200 per annum. This rate will grow exponentially in the next few years, so by the turn of the century or the beginning of the next century we can see the main outline of the human genome. Researchers are using a variety of genetic engineering tools to decipher the password of life. Some of their findings may allow scientists to diagnose and treat many diseases before they occur.
