布氏硬度压痕直径的测量已为硬度测试工作者所熟知和掌握。但在测试中,金属材料和锻造、铸造、热处理退火(正火)及调质零件的硬度检验,尚存在一些问题。因为这些零件的硬度检验一般都是毛坯或是粗车粗刨的半成品,表面十分粗糙。按布氏硬度试验的要求,试件表面的光洁度应在 V6以上。事实上在生产中由于经济成本的关系,难于作到。零件即使经砂轮磨过,也有一定的加工痕迹,光洁度不高。在车间中测量压痕直径的自然光线一般也不太合适,
