Post-weld heat treatment (referred to as PWHT), stress relief heat treatment or stress relief annealing (referred to as SR) has long been used as a means of improving the quality of welded components, and for the world’s relevant regulations, standards adopted. The above term, formerly known as annealing in Japan, recently called normalization, has been used in the world for nearly 10 years after the heat treatment (PWHT). But this is mainly used in the welding sector, while other departments are still said to be annealed, and learned, the habit of saying normalization. After the war, the cases of damage to the welded vessels in the United States were mostly considered as the influence of welding residual stress in the early days. Since it is not possible to take measures such as overall annealing in the furnace, the emphasis should be placed on operational aspects such as welding sequence, stress reduction in design
