This thesis attempts to show sex discrimination existing in English. Through the previous researches made by scholars and linguists, we discovered that there were many sexist words and proverbs in English which reflected chivalrous culture in English-speaking countries. The study points out the implications of words, proverbs and the culture hidden behind them and eliminating sexism in English can take place not only by changing linguistic aspect but also by changing the stereotypes in people s mind.
