The role of hydrogen in stress corrosion cracking in aluminum alloys has drawn considerable interest recently. The close relationship between the brittleness of aluminum alloys in stress corrosion media and the cracking of hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion cracking has been discussed in many papers. However, the details of the relationship between hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion cracking are not always clear. Some authors have also studied these phenomena in Al-8% Mg alloys and observed that the alloys have considerable brittleness and found that they are closely related.
