The authors purified the IL-8 (also known as T-cell chemokine TCF) from PHA-stimulated PBMCs by chromatography. Amino acid sequence analysis of the purified TCF showed homology to the previously described neutrophil activating protein NAP-1. Both TCF and recombinant (r) NAP-1 have chemotactic ability to PBMC and T cells in vitro, supporting the notion that TCF and NAP-1 are the same substance. Injecting rNAP-1 (in the lymphatic drainage zone) into Fisher rats resulted in accelerated migration of lymphocytes within the high endothelial venous (HEV) and intradermal injection of rNAP-1 resulting in concentration-dependent neutralization of lymphocytes and lymphocytes. IL-1 was found chemotactically neutral in the past
