In the traditional translation theory, author-centered theory and text-centered theory occupy an absolute dominance, and translators are often at a passive edge in the process of translation. However, as the main body of the whole translation activity, the translator must exert its own subjectivity in the process of translating and carry out the strategy creation of the translated text. This essay explores how the translator should grasp the essence of the original poem through the translation of “A Gift from Zhang Yunrong” Translated by Yang Yuhuan, a poem by the American poet Amy Lowell. Make independent choices, and then lead to the reflection on the translator’s subjectivity in the process of English translation of Chinese classical poetry.
