The EU plans to nurture key resources and focus scientific research in those fields that can play an important role in enhancing European industrial competitiveness or in solving some of the major political and social problems facing Europe so far. To that end, the framework program identified seven priority areas. Gene and biotech integration research has benefited from breakthroughs in the genetic code cleansing, with particular emphasis on improving public health and the benefit of citizens; enhancing the competitiveness of the European biotech industry.
