京九铁路(北京经深圳连接香港九龙)是“八五”计划中重点工程项目,也是我国铁路走出“瓶颈”的关键之举。京九铁路在我国线路最长、工程量浩大、桥梁繁多,仅铁道部第三勘测设计院承担的北京至山东荷泽段就有特大桥24座,大桥35座,中桥161座,小桥74座,涵洞2240座,京九铁路与正在兴建的北京西客站接轨,西客站28公里的西长线又有特大桥8座,中、小桥24座,桥梁工程之大,可见一斑。
