我县地处滇南,是一个多民族的山区县。全县有土地1,135万亩,其中林地面积为961万亩,占总面积的85％;森林覆盖率为45％,林木总蓄积达3,100多万立方米。这些优越的自然条件为我县发展林业打下了良好的基础。党的三中全会以来,我县认真落实党的林业政策,调动了各族人民保护森林、发展林业的积极性,使林业工作出现了可喜的局面。1982年,全县林业成绩尤为显著,具体表现在:全县植树近19万株,荒山造林4,235亩,封山育林50万亩,迹地更新
