Philipsen first used the term odontogenic keratocyst to describe a series of keratinized jugular cysts that he believed were odontogenic and many later described the odontogenic keratocyst (OKC ) Of the clinical and histological features. Sometimes OKC also occurs in the lateral root of the periodontal area. Fantaria studied 46 cases of root-side periodontal cysts and found that 8 of them (17%) were OKC. Gold and Sliwkowski study of 32 cases found in 6 cases (19%) was OKC. Brannon also found that 20 of 82 periodontal cysts (24.4%) were OKC.
