The Soviet Martyrs Cemetery was relocated to the east of the municipal funeral vehicle dispatch center near West Tower in 1997. Beside its site, there are still “immovable cultural relics” that were once referred to as the “Tsarist Memorial Tower”. According to historical records, the supremacy of the colonial powers over northeastern China by the Tsarist Russia and Japan in 1904 triggered the “Russo-Japanese War” by which armed force was used. In the crucial campaign of “Battle of Mukden,” the two sides fought a total of 7 days and nights, and the Russian side killed 90,000 people, ending with the Russian defeat and the “Russo-Japanese War.” More than 100 years ago, the burial ground set up here was just for burying part of the officers and men of the Russian Federation who died in the Battle of Mukden.
