近年来,杂多酸及其盐在催化领域内越来越引人关注。杂多酸具有酸性和氧化性,它们可作为酸型催化剂,氧化型催化剂或双功能催化剂应用于许多有机合成及反应。在杂多酸作为催化剂的基础和应用研究中,研究得较多的是钼钒磷杂多酸。它们可作为乙烯氧化合成乙醛,异丁烯、异丁酸氧化制甲基丙烯酸及芳香化合物氧化二聚等反应的催化剂。钼钒磷杂多酸受到人们重视的主要原因是因为12一钼磷酸中的钼原子被钒原子取代后,可提高其氧化能力,通过调变钒原子数的方法,可控制其氧化性和酸性,使其具有更广泛的适应性,其还原产物容易被氧化。
