Museums that document trauma and conflict haveproliferated across the globe in the past decade,and more are planned.The Canadian Museumfor Human Rights will showcase atrocities endured bygroups that have made their home in Canada,and is due toopen in 2009.In Thailand there is talk of building amemorial museum documenting the damage caused by lastyear’s tsunami,and a museum has been proposed to displaythe atrocities of Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq.The Robben Island Museum in South Africa and thegenocide museums outside Kigali in Rwanda have achievedinternational renown.In the USA,holocaust museums haveproliferated—the best known is the Washington HolocaustMuseum.
