Tunnels in Scandinavia or the Alps often freeze. To this end Xuer Si Troisdorf AG developed a seal with a thermal insulation system. It consists mainly of Carbofol tunnel plate, Trocellen 4cm thick insulation layer and about 8cm thick sprayed concrete shell composition. The company conducted tests on the combustion performance of the system in cooperation with the Research Institute for Underground Transport Facilities (STUVA) in Germany and the Building Materials, Concrete Building and Fire Protection Institute of the University of Brunswick.
