仲明自一九七二年起,向我请教书法。那时他是南京师范大学音乐系的学生。当时由于不乏青年人携来学书的功课请我指点,所以我对他的爱好并不觉得稀奇。一九七四年他赴江苏泰兴县(现为泰兴市)执教中学音乐之后,竟然每每趁星期日不远数百里乘车来宁向我请教书法。这足见他对书法的癖好与渴求,从此我对他寄予了厚望。由于是不约而来,或与我失之晤面,或在我对他短暂传授后他便匆匆地踏上归程。如此年复一年,他的书艺大进。值得一提的是,我在一九八五年招收硕士学位书法研究生时,事先并没有给他信息,这是因为我预计他不能通过外语考试这一关。然而出乎意料,他竟然前来应试。更使我出乎意料的是,包括日语在内的全部课程,他居然均以优良的成绩,成为我唯一的首届书法研究生。这使我想到‘有志者,事竟成’这句古训。 Since 1972, Zhong Ming has asked me about calligraphy. At that time he was a student of music department of Nanjing Normal University. At that time, because of the lack of young people who came to school books, please give pointers to me, so I do not find it strange to him. In 1974, after he went to Taixing County, Jiangsu Province (now Taixing City) to teach middle school music, he often invited me to consult calligraphy rather than traveling hundreds of miles around Sunday. This shows his habit of calligraphy and desire, since then I have high hopes for him. He had hurriedly set foot on schedule by not agreeing with me or meeting with me, or shortly after I taught him briefly. So year after year, his art greatly. It is worth mentioning that I did not give him information before enrolling a master’s degree in postgraduate studies in 1985 because I did not expect him to pass the foreign language examination. However, unexpectedly, he actually came to the test. What surprised me even more was that all his courses, including Japanese, actually made his first successful postgraduate calligraphy with good grades. This reminds me of the old saying that ’there are people who want to do things.’
