怀斯、希勒、霍普是被普遍公认的现代美国现实主义的主要倡导者,但他们的艺术却显现出抽象元素并成为美国抽象表现主义的重要组成部分。三位艺术家皆在某种自我矛盾、相互悖论的观念中以各自独特的艺术表现形式传递抽象与具象、内在情感与外在现实。他们有相当数量带有“窗户”的作品,因而本文依据“窗户”题材试论他们在驾驭现实传统与抽象创新之间所做的不同努力及相互的联系。
Wise, Shearer, and Hopp are widely recognized as the chief advocates of modern American realism, but their art shows an abstract element and becomes an important part of American abstract expressionism. All three artists convey the abstract and the concrete, the inner emotion and the external reality in their own unique artistic expressions in some self-contradictory and mutually paradoxical concepts. They have a considerable number of works with “windows.” Therefore, this article tries to discuss the different efforts and connections between the traditional and the abstract innovations based on the theme of “Window ”.
