INTRODUCTION The measurement of planar elastic constants of fiber reinforced composites is an important part of its mechanical properties testing. The properties of the orthotropic composite can be characterized by five independent elastic constants: E_L, E_T, G_ (LT), v_ (LT) and v_ (TL) (where L and T denote, respectively, Vertical and horizontal), given that Maxwell’s reciprocity contains two Young’s moduli and two (3) Sangbi, the number of basic elastic constants can be considered as four. The new experimental method described here is to determine these elastic constants, especially for the determination of shear modulus.
