美国十分关注中国的发展和动向,他们既担心中国强大后会挑战美国主导的亚太秩序,又担心中国出现混乱会影响亚太地区的稳定。总之,美国以一种十分复杂的心情看待美中关系和注视中国改革开放以来的发展和变化。 冷战结束后,美国曾担心日本有可能挑战美国的霸主地位,敲打日本一度风行美国政坛。不过,从上世纪90年代初开始,随着日本经济放缓和世界银行发表根据购买力平价评估的中国国民生产总值报告,美国人开始将注意力转向中国,探究中国的强大对美究竟是福是祸。
