The Chilean Railway, part of the Ministry of Transport, is an independent public-owned company with the highest executive leadership as a general manager. In 1981, three railway stations were established, namely Arica Railway Administration, Southern Railway Administration and Northern Railway Administration. In 1988, two additional independent suburban passenger transport agencies were added. In 1989, an engineering bureau was also set up specifically for the construction of the lower part of the line.
