When the 2002 FIFA World Cup was over, we could say that the World Cup was a huge success in China, at least not fully, if we did not consider the performance of the national football (the first time we reached the finals but a three-game losing streak and one goal missed) Chinese audience to watch the enthusiasm of the game. After the first round, the viewing trend clearly illustrates this point. But no one knows whether the Chinese audience will continue to watch the World Cup has no national football participation. The ratings data from the second round to the final of June 30 clearly tell us that the Chinese team was eliminated and did not affect everyone watching the World Cup. On the contrary, the closer the match ended, the more people watch the game and the audience reached the final peak. Here we use Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, eight cities ratings data (meter data) to analyze the key factors affecting the viewing conditions during the World Cup.
