The Rello Research Center at the US Bureau of Mines is anticipating the possibility of leaching manganese from low-grade local ores with heterotrophic microorganisms. Using molasses as a nutrient source for microorganisms, more than 90% of the manganese has been extracted from various oxidized ores in oscillating flask tests.
