This article analyzes the text of the “Joy Luck Club” to reveal the binary opposition between the mother and daughter’s two generations of culture and life. This analysis shows that the Chinese-Americans’ confusion and perplexity about their own identity / culture, from the initial boycott of Chinese culture, look down upon Chinese culture later slowly understand Chinese culture, recognize the advantages of Chinese culture to the final realization of cultural digestion. While American society has shown great interest in these immigrants with dual cultural identities, these dual identities pay more attention to their own weak culture (Chinese culture), eventually dissolving the binary opposition in culture.
