Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) belong to a family of intracellular proteolytic enzymes. They are named after cations such as Ca2 +, Zn2 +, which can regulate the formation, remodeling and degradation of extracellular matrix. They have important biological Function, participate in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have a high degree of self-renewal ability and multidirectional differentiation potential, they can sense the damage signals migrate to the tissue damage site, proliferate and differentiate into injured tissue cells, which play an important role in the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues . The migration and differentiation of BMSCs are regulated by MMPs and their inhibitors. In this paper, we briefly reviewed the role of MMPs in the differentiation and migration of BMSCs.
