教学中常常发现有些词分开是短语,合起来却是一个词,而且意思还很丰富。本文就一些英语动词短语的分分合合举些实例,与读者分享;也便于学习英语者受到启发,找出规律来。
一、分开是动词短语,合起来却是名词
1.Things worked out quite well.
事情的结果很不错。
During a workout she fell and injured her arm.
在一次训练中,她摔倒了,伤了胳膊。
2.Hand out the papers.
把试卷分给大家 。
Please read the handout carefully.
请仔细读这份说明。
3.Don`t break in on our conversation.
请别打断我们的谈话。
Police are investigating a breakin at the bank.
警方正在调查有人闯入银行的事件。
4.The thief was handed over to the police.
已将小偷交给警察局。
The manager attended the handover ceremony yesterday.
经理出席了昨天的交接仪式。
5. The sun broke through at last in the afternoon.
太阳在下午终于从云层后面钻出来了。
They have a major breakthrough in cancer research.
他们在癌症研究方面有了重大突破。

二、分开是动词短语,次序颠倒再合成却是名词

雨停了,太阳出来了。

这种制度急需改革。
There was a public outcry about the building of a new airport.
众公强烈抗议修建新机场。
3.Firemen soon put out the fire.
消防队员很快把火扑灭了。

夜间突然发生了火灾。

三、分开是动词短语,但词序颠倒再合成却是另一个动词

This model outsells all others on the market.
这种型号在市场上比其它型号畅销。
2.Why don`t you come over to England for a holiday? 你怎么不到英国来度假呢?
We`ll overcome that difficulty when we get to it.
那种困难,到时候我们自有办法解决。
3. Weigh out all the ingredients before you start making the cake.
在动手做蛋糕之前,要先把配料量好。
The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.
