In a beautiful and sunny morning in May, in the lush Cong military headquarters compound, I saw the 89-year-old former deputy political commissar of the Guangzhou Military Region General Deng Yifan. Although the 71-year-old revolutionary elder has experienced ups and downs and is still suffering from vicissitudes of life, he is still shy. In an interview in his darkened living room, he talked about party-armed relations in a loud Mandarin with a slightly Hakka accent. He said: Party organizations at all levels should pay more attention to armed work. If the party does not possess armed forces, it will have no status. After the interview, the veteran general gave a pen and gave us the words “Five Walking with the Party Forever”. This is his expectation of armed work and a portrayal of his decades of revolutionary career. Just pull off the Kuomintang army badge, Deng Yi Fanzhengzhang shouted: “I do not go back, I want to stay the Red Army!”
