补体存在于正常动物的血清中,由Nu-ttall(1888)、Buchner(1889)发现,原称杀菌素(alexine),由Ehrlich(1899)改称为补体(complement)。目前发现,补体是由二十多种成分组成的多分子系统,包括各种补体成份、参与旁路活化途径的因子群、各种灭活剂等三大类;补体活化至少有传统(classical)、旁路(alternative)两条途径;补体不仅对抗体有辅助与增强作用,也具有独立的生物学活性。除C(?)q、D 因子、C_3bINA 外,补体系统各成分均以无活性形式(前体分子)存在于血浆中,约占血浆球蛋白总量的10~15%,激活时各成份依次呈链锁样反应活化,参与机体防御、内环境稳定及某些免疫病理过程。
