Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, known as “Jiangsu No. 1 Road ”, as the golden passage for traffic in the Yangtze River Delta region, greatly accelerated the flow of people, logistics and information in the region and promoted the economic and social development of cities and towns along the line . Since its opening to traffic in 1996, Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway has been operating for a full decade. However, there are still serious problems in the English translation of bilingual signs along the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, including improper use of words, errors in grammar and non-compliance with English expressions and many more. Such marks not only fail to fulfill their function of indicating information, but may cause troubles to the travel of foreign friends and reduce the international standard of supporting software of the expressway. At the same time, they also detract from the international image of the surrounding areas and even our country. This paper analyzes the problems in the translation of some public signs on the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway (used to be the Ning-Hu Freeway in Jiangsu Province).
