The basic process of scientific inquiry is: asking questions, setting up conjectures and assumptions, making plans, getting facts and evidence, testing and evaluating. “Establishing conjecture ” plays an important role in scientific inquiry, which determines the direction of the research. Once the conjecture is supported by the experimental results, it can develop into a scientific conclusion. Therefore, a reasonable guess or not directly affect the effectiveness of inquiry. As an important link in inquiry teaching, “conjecture” refers to people’s making a bold assumption or anticipating opinion on the unknown based on the existing materials or knowledge and experience, and with some intuitional thinking .
