步行锻炼的最大优点是简易而安全,即使对那些体弱或不适宜于较剧烈运动的人,步行也仍是适宜的。而步行又能收到和其他运动相似的健身效果。步行时不仅下肢肌肉活动,而且摆动的上肢及腰腹部肌肉均得到活动与锻炼,由于全身肌肉活动的加强,大大促进新陈代谢。据研究,每天用中等速度步行一个多小时,可使代谢率提高约40%;步行还加速血液循环,增强心脏功能;步行也使呼吸加强,促进肠胃道活动,对健康十分有益。
